Speed Connection Circuits
Timed rotations that help everyone talk to everyone
Game Overview.
Participants rotate through short rounds of conversation prompts, sharing a new story or insight each time the bell rings. The pace keeps energy high and ensures people interact with multiple teammates.
Objectives
- ✓Kick off meetings with meaningful but light conversation
- ✓Help participants talk to several people in a short window
- ✓Create momentum before workshops or brainstorming sessions
- ✓Lower the barrier for quieter folks to contribute early
What You'll Need
- •Timer or phone with a stopwatch app
- •List of 6-8 rotating conversation prompts
- •Bell, music clip, or verbal cue to signal rotation
Preparation
- 1Arrange chairs or breakout rooms so pairs can rotate quickly
- 2Select prompts that range from playful to reflective
- 3Explain timing expectations before the first round begins
How to Play
STEP 1
Pair Participants
Split the group into pairs or trios. If in person, create two facing lines so one line shifts after every prompt.
STEP 2
Introduce the First Prompt
Read the first question aloud and give each person 45-60 seconds to respond while their partner listens.
STEP 3
Rotate Quickly
Signal the end of the round with a bell or music cue. Have one line move down so everyone meets a new partner.
STEP 4
Debrief Highlights
After four or five prompts, gather the whole group and invite people to share a favorite story or surprise they heard.
Pro Tips
- Remind players to swap speaker/listener roles each round
- Post prompts on a screen so people can stay focused on listening
- Facilitators should float to help anyone without a partner
- Layer in gentle music to keep the pace upbeat
Variations
Theme Rounds
Choose prompts tied to the event theme such as innovation, customer stories, or hobbies.
Wildcard Cards
Let participants submit their own prompts before the session and shuffle them into the rotation.
Point Collectors
Award a point for every new person someone meets. Celebrate the highest score at the end.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many prompts do I need?
Prepare at least six prompts so you have backup options. Four rounds take roughly ten minutes including transitions.
What if the group is uneven?
Create one trio and rotate who answers first, or have the facilitator jump in when needed.
Can this work virtually?
Yes. Use breakout rooms with timed moves and broadcast each new prompt in the chat.
